BUDGET BREAKDOWN FOR ROANOKE VALLEY

With the legislative approval of the state budget Saturday, a number of Roanoke Valley projects received the final word on state money for the next two years.

They include:

Hotel Roanoke Conference Center: $1.2 million.

Explore Park, operating funds: $800,000.

The Science Museum of Western Virginia: $767,044.

Center in the Square: $300,000.

The Transportation Museum of Western Virginia: $200,000.

Art Museum of Western Virginia: $100,000.

Virginia State Games: $75,000.

The Julian Wise Museum: $75,000.

Mill Mountain Zoo: $48,500.

In addition, several area economic-development efforts received state support, including the New Century Council, $200,000, and the New River Alliance, $325,000. Virginia VIEWS, a statewide job placement effort based in Blacksburg, will receive $196,000.

A new part-time magistrate for the town of Vinton also is included in the budget, at a cost of $11,650.
