ROANOKE HOME DAMAGED BY FIRE

An 89-year-old woman was burned when a fire broke out in her house in the 2300 block of Hanover Avenue Northwest Friday night.

Carrie Hargraves was listed in satisfactory condition Saturday night in Roanoke Memorial Hospital, according to a nursing supervisor.

Hargraves was helped out the back door of the home by a neighbor who spotted the fire, said District Fire Chief Garry Basham.

The fire's cause was traced to an electric heater in the living room of the home, Roanoke fire investigators said.

The fire, which started around 10:30 p.m., did an estimated $15,000 in damage to the house.
