PRINCETON'S EARLY FLURRY SINKS VIRGINIA

Third-ranked Princeton charged to a 5-0 lead after one quarter and went on to whip No. 5 Virginia 14-6 in Charlottesville on Saturday.

Kevin Lowe led the Tigers (2-0) with three goals and five assists. Virginia cut its deficit to 7-4 in the third quarter but got no closer.

Tim Whiteley led the Cavaliers (1-1) with three goals and one assist. Princeton outshot Virginia 45-42.

Eric Daly and J.J. Blatt scored three goals apiece as Roanoke whipped visiting Greensboro 19-10 Saturday at Alumni Field.

Greensboro (0-1) led 2-0 early, but Roanoke scored three goals to close the first period. The Maroons (2-1) never trailed again.

Brett Smith and Jim Kammerman each had two goals and two assists for Roanoke, and Craig Fleming had 13 saves. The Maroons outshot Greensboro 61-29.

Sophomore Ande Jenkins scored seven goals, one shy of the school record, as Washington and Lee whipped Swarthmore 17-2 in a semifinal game of the Washington and Lee tournament Saturday in Lexington.

Jenkins scored the first four goals as the Generals (2-1) took a 10-0 halftime lead. The Generals will play Alfred, a 15-5 semifinal winner over Wooster, today in the finals.

In East Rutherford, N.J., Jeff Jenkins scored two goals and added three assists as Lehigh whipped VMI 11-4. Lehigh (1-0) outshot the Keydets 53-27 and led 6-1 after two quarters. John Rippley scored two goals to lead VMI (3-1).
