The 41-year-old woman told police she was in the east parking lot of the mall when a man standing near her car tried to force her into the vehicle. She resisted and told the suspect to take her car keys.
The suspect complied, grabbed the victim's purse and left the area in her car. The woman returned to the mall for help, police said.
About 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, police recovered the victim's car in the 2300 block of Clifton Avenue Northwest.
No arrest had been made by Tuesday afternoon.
