Edmunds, a graduate of Jefferson High School, was the Tribe's starting halfback in football from 1956-59. The 147-pound runner twice was named the Southern Conference's player of the year, and he led William and Mary to one of its biggest victories ever - a 7-6 upset of 10th-ranked North Carolina State in 1957. He also competed in track and field, as well as golf for the Tribe.
Joining Edmunds in this year's class are Jeri Daniels, track and field; Bob Foth, rifle; Christian Herr, swimming; and Warren Joblin, track and field. They will be honored April 9 with a banquet at Fort Magruder Inn in Williamsburg. For ticket information, call Jean Beall at (804) 221-3350.
Virginia Tech wrestlers Josh Feldman and Dante Winslow received seeds for the NCAA Wrestling Tournament to be held at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel, Hill, N.C. today through Saturday.
Feldman, a heavyweight and Winslow, a 158-pounder, both drew No. 12 seeds in each of their 32-man brackets. After a first-round bye, Feldman (25-5) will face the winner of a match between fifth-seeded Steve King of Michigan and Darn Priesendorf of Fresno State tonight at 7.
Winslow (26-1) will face Aaron Moran of Purdue today at 11 a.m. Moran (15-6) finished fourth in the Big Ten tournament.
At Hanging Rock Golf Club in Salem, Hampden-Sydney led the team competition and Mike Ramsden of Lynchburg finished first among the individuals in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match.
Hampden-Sydney finished at 47-over-par 339, three strokes in front of second-place Washington and Lee. Roanoke and Lynchburg shared third at 347. Ramsden won medalist honors with a 6-over-par 79. Roanoke's Chris Lawson and W&L's Scott Robinson tied for second at 81.
John Gamble, the head strength coach at Virginia, has resigned to become strength and conditioning coach of the NFL's Miami Dolphins. Gamble, a native of Richmond, will assume his new duties Monday. A former nationally ranked powerlifter, he came to UVa as assistant strength coach in 1980 and became head strength coach in 1984.
Steven Baker has been chosen as facility manager for the new Ferrum Fitness Center. Baker, a graduate of Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, is working on a master's degree in sports management at Virginia Tech.
