WELDERS' TORCHES IGNITE FIRE IN HOTEL ROANOKE

Accumulated grease caught fire Wednesday morning at the Hotel Roanoke as workers dismantled duct work in the first-floor kitchen with welders' torches, according to Roanoke Fire Capt. Billy Obenchain.

The fire was contained within the first-floor duct system but sent smoke billowing throughout the system, Obenchain said.

There were no injuries. Firefighters rescued three workers forced to the roof by smoke.

Five fire companies responded.
