REPORTED EARNINGS

Heilig-Meyers Co., Richmond-based home-furnishings retailer with stores in Western Virginia, on Wednesday reported record fourth-quarter net earnings of $14.3 million, or 28 cents per share, up 48.6 percent from $9.6 million, or 21 cents, last year. Revenues increased 32.6 percent, to $241.9 million from $182.4 million.

Revenues for the year increased 31.4 percent, to $863.8 million from $657.5 million, while earnings rose 44.7 percent, to $55 million from $38 million. Earnings per share rose 34.9 percent, to $1.12 from 83 cents.

S&K Famous Brands

S & K Famous Brands Inc., a Richmond-based menswear retailer operating stores in Western Virginia, on Wednesday reported a 12 percent gain in net income, to $4 million, or 84 cents per share, for its fiscal year ended Jan. 29. That compares with $3.6 million, or 76 cents per share a year earlier. Sales rose 14 percent to $98.9 million from $87 million a year earlier.

Fourth-quarter sales were up 10 percent to $33.6 million and net income was up less than 1 percent to $1.9 million, or 39 cents per share.
