The Hokies (10-10) scored six runs in the first two innings to take control. Center fielder Popeye Smith led off for Tech in the first inning with a solo home run, and the Hokies added five runs in the second inning and 10 in the eighth.
Bo Durkac and Bryan King drove in three runs each for Tech.
Brian Young picked up the victory in his first collegiate start, striking out three and giving up six hits in 5 innings. Jason Baker took the loss for the Flames (7-11).

In Lexington, Lynchburg held off a late rally to edge Washington and Lee 12-11 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's lacrosse.
Lynchburg (4-1 overall, 3-0 in the ODAC) led 12-7 with 5 minutes, 34 seconds remaining. The Generals (1-3, 1-2) scored the next four goals to cut the deficit to one with 1:05 to play. Angie Carrington led W&L with five goals.
