The star was damaged in Sunday's fire that burned almost three acres of Mill Mountain, a Roanoke firefighter said. He said several of the light tubes were shorting out and throwing sparks. Appalachian Power Co. was called to turn the star off.
City Public Works Director William Clark said the Kinsey Crane & Sign Co. has ordered new parts and was hoping to have the star working again by the end of this week.
