BUFFALOES OUTLAST AUBURN

Hal Harvey and Phillip Marshall doubled home runs in the eighth inning Friday as Floyd County (2-0) defeated Auburn 7-5 in high school baseball.

Winning pitcher Joel Pratt homered in the sixth inning to tie the score 5-5.

Steve Francis had two hits and three RBI for Auburn (0-2).

In other baseball:

Ben Basham went 3-for-3 including a double, a triple and three RBI as Shawsville defeated visiting Craig County 7-4. Jason Smith struck out seven for the Shawnees (3-0). Duane Sowers had two hits and one RBI to lead the Rockets (3-3).

Charlie Hammersley had a two-run triple to cap a six-run seventh inning as Salem (1-1) rallied to beat Christiansburg 9-8. Byron Gates had a pair of home runs for Christiansburg (0-2).

In Daleville, Billy Arthur pitched a one-hitter as Lord Botetourt defeated Radford 5-1.

Arthur struck out 10 and walked seven in the Cavaliers' opener. Jack Johnson hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Shannon Williams added a two-run single in the fifth.

Radford's record slipped to 1-1.

\ SOCCER: Steve Cherry had one goal and three assists as Blacksburg defeated Giles 6-1 in a boys' soccer game at Blacksburg. The Indians (1-0) outshot the Spartans 36-2. Robbie Claytor scored the lone goal for Giles (0-2).
