SMART-ROAD DEPICTIONS TOPIC OF MEETING

The New River Valley Environmental Coalition will sponsor a meeting Monday where a landscape architecture student's computer-simulated depictions of a section of the proposed "smart road" will be discussed.

The simulations - of a bridge through Ellett Valley - have been prepared by Michael O'Brien, a graduate student at Virginia Tech. The university and Virginia Department of Transportation officials have criticized the depictions as innaccurate.

The coalition has invited Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker and transportation department engineer Dan Brugh to the meeting. Both said they were thinking about attending in observers' roles, although neither had committed.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Virginia Tech Museum of Natural History.
