The program, sponsored by the Sweden-based Educational Foundation for Foreign Study, gives students a realistic glimpse of daily life in the United States. They become short-term family members and gain new language skills and cultural awareness.
All kinds of families are needed, according to local coordinator Maggie Hagedorn. There need to be at least two people in the household for a student to be assigned, and that can be a single parent and child, a retired or childless couple or a family with children.
Interested families will complete an application, and Hagedorn will visit each family home. Family members can select teens who match their own interests and preferences.
For more information, call Hagedorn at 552-5146.
