CLIFF CRAIG, UTILITIES CHIEF FOR COUNTY, DIES

Cliff Craig, Roanoke County utilities director and engineer of the Spring Hollow Reservoir water treatment plant, died Saturday. He was 51.

The cause of Craig's death was not known.

Craig was hired to tackle the Spring Hollow project in 1985.

His background in public water system design and construction allowed him to create an unusual design without the need for outside engineers. Craig's work saved the county millions of dollars.

In an August 1993 newspaper article, Hollins District Supervisor Bob Johnson said Craig was "probably one of the most brilliant people we've ever employed in the county."

Craig will be buried in Indiana, Pa. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
