NRV TRACK'S SCHEDULE A WASHOUT

Rain was the only winner Sunday at New River Valley Speedway.

The track's first 100-lap enduro race, along with a 35-lap pure stock event and a 25-lap race for the mini stocks were postponed because of heavy rain.

The full schedule will be made up May 8. Gates open at 10 a.m., with the first race starting at 2 p.m.

The track will open its regular season Saturday night with the running of the FM-94 200. The late model stocks take the spotlight with a 100-lap race. Also on the card are 35 laps for the limited sportsman class and 25 laps for the mod mini, mini and pure stock cars. Drivers will receive double points for their finishes Saturday night.

Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice at 4 p.m. Qualifying gets under way at 6:15 p.m., with the first green flag at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $1 for children 12 and younger.

\ NO PLANS FOR SALE OF ALCOHOL: Although the state has granted New River Valley Speedway an ABC license, promoter Ronnie Snoddy said he has no immediate plans to sell alcoholic beverages at the track.

The permit, similar to the one issued to Martinsville Speedway earlier this year, will allow race fans to legally consume alcoholic beverages on the premises.

Snoddy said he plans to designate a family section in the grandstands where alcoholic beverages will not be permitted.

Fans still will be allowed to bring coolers into the grandstand area, Snoddy said.
