Junior midfielder Michael Vaughan had his first four goals of the season and six other players had two goals for the Cavaliers (5-1). Senior midfielder J.J. Blatt had three goals and an assist for the Maroons, ranked 11th in Division III. Roanoke is 4-4.

Virginia broke open a one-run lead by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning en route to a 21-3 drubbing of Coppin State in a baseball game in Charlottesville.
Starter Derrick Cusick (2-1) pitched three innings and earned the victory for the Cavaliers (10-13). Brian Pisani (0-5) picked up the loss for the Eagles (3-16).
Twelve different Cavs pounded out a total of 20 hits. Donnie Seward led the way, going 3-for-4. Chris Jones was 2-for-3 with four RBI while Shawn Mitchell added two doubles and three RBI.
Sophomore first baseman Sean Casey singled to right with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to break a 4-4 tie and send Richmond past Virginia Tech 5-4 in a baseball game at Richmond's Pitt Field.
The Spiders (16-8) used two home runs in the third to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Tech (10-13) caught up by scoring two runs in the seventh on a homer by sophomore David Fitt and two runs in the eighth off a double by junior Bryan King.
Richmond sophomore Henry Ogden (2-0) pitched the final 1 innings and earned the win. Chris Freeman (1-2) was the losing pitcher.
At Ferrum, Ferrum's baseball team swept Ramapo College 15-3 and 10-0.
Anthony Smith (3-0) and Jim Hamilton (4-1) pitched complete games; Hamilton allowed two hits in the second game and struck out 12. John Poindexter was 3-for-4 with six RBI in the first game.
In the second game, former Blacksburg High player Matt Smith was 3-for-3 with two RBI for Ferrum (13-2), and former Cave Spring player Jason St. Clair was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
At Tazewell, Ferrum shot a 305 to win the Bluefield College Invitational men's college golf tournament by 15 shots over Bluefield State. Ferrum's R.J. Weaver, Stuart Smith and Matt Jordan each shot a 75 to pace the Panthers.
At Buies Creek, N.C., Radford finished ninth in the 10-team Fighting Camel Classic women's golf tournament. Jennifer Kellogg (170) and Olivia Faison (173) led Radford, which had a 711 total for 36 holes, 87 shots behind winning Campbell University.
Radford's Christie Epperly and Michelle Libero were among seven gymnasts who qualified for at-large berths to the NCAA Southeast Regional Gymnastics Championships April 9 in Morgantown, W.Va.
Epperly, a Cave Spring High School graduate, qualified with a score 37.6, an average of her top six meets. Libero, who placed second recently in the Virginia State Meet, had a qualifying score of 37.8.
All-America football player Mark Dixon from Virginia has received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the top offensive lineman in the ACC.
Dixon, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive guard from Jamestown, N.C., was selected in a poll of conference coaches.
The Jacobs Trophy is named for Dr. William P. Jacobs, who helped organize the first football team at Presbyterian (S.C.) College, and is awarded in four conferences and the state of South Carolina.
Roanoke senior Hilliary Scott, who was named a first-team Division III All-American last week, was placed on the first team of the Virginia Sports Information Director's college division men's all-state team on Tuesday.
The squad, made up of players from Division II and III schools in Virginia, also included Christopher Newport's Ted Berry and Jo Jo Chambers, Warren Peebles of Virginia Union and Corey Williams of Norfolk State.
Carol Alfano, who led the Virginia Tech women's basketball team to the Metro Conference championship and first ever berth in the NCAA Tournament, was named the state's coach of the year by the Virginia College Sports Information Directors Association.
Alfano, who also won the award last year, coached the Hokies to a 24-6 record this season. The 24 wins were the most by any Virginia Tech basketball team, men or women.
Old Dominion's Celeste Hill was named player of the year and was joined on the first team by Wendy Palmer of Virginia, Shannan Wilkey of Radford, Ashleigh Akens of William and Mary and Marcell Harrison of George Mason.
Tech juniors Christi Osborne and Jenny Root were named to the second team along with Virginia freshman Tora Suber, Nickie Hilton of George Mason and Shonda Deberry of ODU.
