CARDINALS SIGN SCHROEDER, WAIVE SHAWN MOORE

The Arizona Cardinals signed Jay Schroeder on Monday, picking up another experienced quarterback and possibly opening the way to a controversy about who should start.

To make room for Schroder, the Cardinals released former Virginia quarterback Shawn Moore, who was signed two weeks ago after Denver waived him.

Schroeder moved into the No. 3 spot on the depth chart, behind Steve Beuerlein and Jim McMahon. Beuerlein started Sunday in a 14-12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams but was only 18-of-40 for 158 yards against the Rams, with two interceptions.

Schroeder, who earned $800,000 for his year with the Bengals, took a substantial pay cut.
