Ground Round Restaurants Inc., Boston-based chain with a unit in Roanoke County, said Thursday its sales at restaurants operating at least a year rose 0.4 percent for August. Remodeled restaurants experienced a 2.5 percent increase for the same period.

Piedmont Label Co. Inc., a Bedford company that designs and prints labels for the food, grocery and household-chemical industries, will mark its 75th anniversary with an open house today. The plant on Depot Street will offer one-hour tours from noon to 4 p.m. Piedmont Label employed three people at its founding in 1919. Now it employs 75.

Highland Mortgage Co. of Richmond said it has placed $2.5 million in permanent financing for the Tech Terrace Apartments, a 48-unit Blacksburg complex owned by Diversified Interests-TCC and managed by MCR Property Management Inc. The financing was provided by sale of Government National Mortgage Association securities.

Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business has established a Center for Relationship Development in its marketing department that will help partner companies develop and manage long-term relationships with potential customers and suppliers. Architectural Wood of Roanoke is this year's winner of the Architectural Woodwork Institute's award of excellence for its work at The Homestead resort in Hot Springs. The work was featured in the institute's journal, Design Solutions.
