The performance of his vehicle has been anything but comical ever since.
Lawhorn won the 75-lap Late Model Stock Car feature race of the Mastertune 300 on Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway. The victory was Lawhorn's fourth in a row, including two victories during Labor Day weekend.
Lawhorn led flag-to-flag Saturday night. Other finishers on the lead lap were Rodney Cundiff (second), Frankie Pennington (third) and Dicky Wilson (fourth). Steve Lynch placed fifth.
A collision on lap 12 between Todd Philpott and Donnie Plunkett delayed the race for 30 minutes, but neither driver was seriously injured.
In other races Saturday night:
Steve Lam returned to victory lane in the Mini Stock division, his 21st victory of the season. James Cox was second, and Carlton Clark edged Tommy Dean for third.
A series of six caution periods marred the first half of the Street Stock race, but Rocky Mount's Mike Elkins avoided trouble to win for the fifth time in six races.
Red Hartman extended his lead in the Pure Stock points race to 110 with another victory. Neil Murray finished a season-best second, and Jay Peery was third.
Pole-sitter Travis Sharpe won the Rookie race for the eighth time this year. Chad Hodges was second, and James Hunt placed third.
Tommy Hall won the 10-lap Truck race, and Tracy Scott was the Any Car race winner.
