SPARTANS CRUISE PAST BLACKSBURG

Shellie Johnson scored 16 points to lead Salem to a 57-42 non-district girls' basketball victory over Blacksburg on Monday.

Sara Palmer added 14 points, including two 3-pointers, for Salem, which took a commanding 31-20 lead into halftime.

The Indians (2-4) were paced by Lisa Price with 13 points.

HILLSVILLE - The Cavaliers used a 21-point third-quarter burst to beat the Rockets in a non-district game.

Carroll (5-1), which led by as many as 16 points, was paced by Denean Jessup with five points and 12 rebounds. India Easter added eight points and five assists.

For Craig (0-2), Chrissy Robertson had 22 points.

RINER - The Knights forced 20 turnovers and were 10-of-18 in the second half en route to their first victory of the season.

James River (1-2) was led by Angie Johnson and Amy Sprinkle with 17 points each.

Auburn (2-1) was led by Michelle Collins with 15 points.

Glenvar used pressure defense to force numerous turnovers and every player scored as the Highlanders whipped visting Shawsville in a non-district game.

Marilea Hale scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the first half to lead Glenvar (4-1).

Robin Burdette led Shawsville with 10 points.

CHRISTIANSBURG - Pressure defense was the difference in overtime as the Demons turned back Graham in a non-district game.

Kristi Maupin sank three free throws with four seconds left to send the game into overtime. Crystal Moles led the Demons (1-1) with 21 points. Maureen Jackson added 13.
