RSVP'S APPLEBUTTER JAMBOREE BEGINS THURSDAY

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County is in the thick of its APPLEBUTTER JAMBOREE this week and gets down to the core of the matter Thursday. In anticipation of the "big day," volunteers have been gathering canning and cooking supplies and, of course, peeling and cutting up the estimated 17 bushels of apples they've collected so far. Very early Thursday, the big kettle goes on the fire at Park United Methodist Church, Park Street, Christiansburg. RSVP still needs sugar and canning lids.

Van pickup for volunteers starts Thursday at 8 a.m., and lunch is provided. Spectators are welcome. Applebutter goes on sale during the annual Wilderness Trail Festival Saturday. To donate jars, lids, rings and sugar - or to volunteer to help peel, cook or clean up - call 382-5775.
