HIGHLANDERS TOP NORTHSIDE 59-29

Marilea Hale scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the second half to help visiting Glenvar defeat Northside 59-29 in a non-district game Tuesday.

It was Glenvar's third loss of the season to Northside, which led 27-18 at halftime. The Vikings then outscored the Highlanders 13-2 in the third quarter to pull away.

Torree Morris added 12 points and Erika Hale 11 for Glenvar (5-1). Northside (1-3) was paced by Terri Craig with eight points.

Lord Botetourt 71

Covington 43

COVINGTON - Sara Hicks scored 12 of her game-high 24 points in a decisive third quarter run to lead the Cavaliers past the Cougars.

Lord Botetourt's Sara Moore scored six of her 19 points in the third quarter as the Cavaliers (5-1) outscored the Covington 26-9.

Bessie Laws led the Cougars (3-1) with 15 points and JoAnne Helton added 12.

Alleghany 70

Bath County 36

LOW MOOR - The Mountaineers' full-court pressure took its toll in the third quarter as the Chargers fell in a non-district matchup.

Alleghany (2-2) led 33-17 going to the third, but Bath County (1-3) was having trouble with the pressure. The Mountaineers then pulled away with numerous steals and layups.

Katie Craft led the onslaught with 19 points and nine steals. Natasha Chapman scored 17 points and Amanda Stover added 11 for Alleghany.

Jennifer Adams paced the Chargers with 11 points.

Shawsville 64

James River 35

SHAWSVILLE - The Burdette sisters combined for 36 points as the Shawnees cruised to a non-district victory over the Knights.

Freshman forward Beth Burdette led Shawsville (3-2) with 21 points and 11 rebounds, and senior twins Robin and Sandy Burdette teamed for 15 points. Brandy Alexander chipped in a season-high 16.

James River (1-3) was led by Angie Johnson's 15 points.

Parry McCluer 38

Rockbridge County 15

BUENA VISTA - Misty Snider scored a game-high 12 points to lead the Fighting Blues to a rout of the Wildcats. Parry McCluer (3-0) took a 26-7 first-half lead and held the Rebels (0-5) to one point in the second quarter.

Jefferson Forest 37 Staunton River 36

FOREST - Crystal Reeves hit two free throws with 18 seconds left as the Cavaliers got past the Golden Eagles in a Seminole District game. Staunton River (2-1) had two shots, including an offensive rebound, in the final seconds. Jennifer Childress led Jefferson Forest (3-1) with 12 points. Courtney Hurd had 14 for Staunton River.
