BUFFALOES SWIPE GAME FROM CHRISTIANSBURG

Looking at the scoreboard, one would not be inclined to say Floyd County stole a victory from Christiansburg on Tuesday night, but the Buffaloes did just that.

Led by senior Leigh-Ann Pursifull's nine steals, Floyd County (6-0) snatched 27 steals and forced 33 turnovers in pounding the Blue Demons 84-41 in a non-district matchup.

Pursifull also had 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Carrie Chaffin scored 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting from the floor and Melissa Cantrell scored 11. All 13 Buffaloes players scored.

Christiansburg (1-2) was led by Crystal Moles' 15 points and Maureen Jackson's 11.

PEARISBURG - Gina Claytor scored 13 of her game-high 15 points in the first half and the Spartans led 30-7 at halftime on the way to routing the Rockets in a non-district game. Giles is 2-2; Bland 0-4.

MARION - The Scarlet Hurricane used a 1-2-1-1 press to force numerous turnovers while building a 16-4 first-quarter lead and went on to beat the Cavaliers in a non-district game.

Becky Grinstead led Marion (3-1) with 12 points. Carroll (5-2) was led by Bethany Hill who scored 12.

Shawsville 64

SHAWSVILLE - The Burdette sisters combined for 36 points to lead the Shawnees to an easy non-district victory. Freshman forward Beth Burdette led Shawsville (3-2) with 21 points and 11 rebounds, and senior twins Robin and Sandy Burdette teamed for 15 points. Brandy Alexander added a season-high 16.

James River (1-3) was led by Angie Johnson's 15 points.

Radford 49

Rocky Gap 44

RADFORD - The Bobcats made six of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter and outrebounded the Eagles 47-26 to outlast them in a non-district game.

Radford (2-3) was led Crystal Hubbard and Sugar Morton, who scored11 points each, and survived despite committing 35 turnovers. Rocky Gap (1-5) tied the score at 40, thanks mainly to Nancy Tupper who scored 10 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth.

MAX MEADOWS - Sherry Smith scored eight of her 19 points in the fourth quarter and the Eagles hit eight of 12 free throws in the period to hold off the Pioneers in a non-district game.

Auburn (3-1) got 14 points from Lori Lyons and 13 from Michelle Collins. Amy Lyons scored 16 for the Pioneers (0-3) and Trish Stuart had 13.

FOREST - Crystal Reeves hit two free throws with 18 seconds left as the Cavaliers got past the Golden Eagles in a Seminole District game. Staunton River (2-1) had two shots, including an offensive rebound, in the final seconds.

Jennifer Childress led Jefferson Forest (3-1) with 12 points. Courtney Hurd had 14 for Staunton River.

Liberty 80

BEDFORD - Liberty had five double-figure scorers as the Minettes (3-1) pounded the Colonels (0-4) in a Seminole District matchup.

Amy Baxter led Liberty with a game-high 13 points and nine assists. Shannon Shevitz led Altavista with 10 points.
