Pulaski Town Council will hold a public hearing on the company's request for a 25-cent per trip increase at its 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday.
Finance Committee Chairman W.H. "Rocky" Schrader said the change, if approved, would set 25 cents as the maximum per-trip increase. A taxi service could set its rates below that maximum.
The Finance Committee, which met Thursday morning, also agreed to recommend the purchase of two leaf collection machines at a cost of $18,500.
The money would come from part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursement to the town for costs incurred from last winter's ice storms. The town has received $30,668 from FEMA so far and anticipates getting a total of $122,000.
The town's old leaf collection machines are no longer operable. The purchase of the new ones will allow the leaf collection program to start shortly after Halloween.
The committee also recommended funds for a computer specialist to work with the town staff on a master plan to convert the Finance Department from its mainframe system to a personal computer-based system.
The plan will cover software for utility billing, accounting, delinquent taxes, payroll and hardware.
The town will delay buying hand-held utility meter readers at a cost of $30,000 until they can be integrated into the whole software program. The program will allow the town to tie into Pulaski County's computer system. The plan is to be completed within 45 days.
