ROANOKE SLIPS BY LYNCHBURG 2-1 IN SOCCER

Roanoke College rallied in the second half on goals by Jenn Roessler and Julie Strothers to edge visiting Lynchburg 2-1 on Tuesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's soccer.

The Hornets (7-2 overall, 2-1 in the ODAC) had taken the early lead on a goal by Julie Burke. Kara Hedges made seven saves to record the victory for the Maroons (2-1-1, 1-1-0).

In other sports in the region:

Virginia Tech scored two goals in the first overtime to beat North Carolina-Greensboro 3-1 in a men's soccer game in Blacksburg. Freshman Chris Segaar scored the go-ahead goal midway through the first overtime period off a pass from Rodney Walsh. Less than four minutes later, sophomore Chris Chladek scored on a pass from Mark Ludwig. Tech is 5-1; UNC Greensboro 3-4.

Tech (5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal from senior Will Littman. UNC Greensboro (3-4) tied it early in the second half on a Luke Jamroz. Goalkeeper Jon DeLong made 12 saves for the Hokies.

Bluefield College edged Washington and Lee by one stroke, 306-307, to win the Bluefield Golf Invitational at Wolf Creek in Bastian. Bluefield's Mike Mead defeated the Generals' Jay Ingram on the second hole of a playoff to earn medalist honors after both golfers shot 75.

Radford finished in a ninth-place tie at the 12-team Tom O'Briant Memorial Golf Tournament in Greensboro. Virginia Commonwealth had five players in the top 10 to win the tournament by nine strokes over UNC Wilmington 797-806.

Ferrum halfback David Anthony, the Panthers' leading rusher, likely will miss Saturday's game against Thomas More and could be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Anthony, a sophomore from Lynch Station who attended Staunton River High School, will meet with a surgeon today to determine if arthroscopic surgery is necessary after aggravating the injury last week in Ferrum's 10-8 victory over West Virginia Tech Anthony, a sophomore from Lynch Station who attended Staunton River High School, still ran for 224 yards against the Golden Bears, 11 yards short of the school record set by current Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Warren in 1988.

NASCAR Winston Cup driver Bobby Hillin Jr. will be signing autographs at the Grand Piano and Furniture Company store at Valley View Mall from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Hillin's Chevy Lumina will be on display from 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
