BLACKSBURG FALLS IN OVERTIME

Freshman Samantha Webb hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and Tanya Holmes and Terri Craig combined for seven points in the extra period to lead Northside to a 59-56 non-district victory over Blacksburg on Tuesday night.

The Vikings (3-3) trailed most of the night, but Craig hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help Northside take a three-point lead with a minute to play.

Blacksburg's Lisa Price hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 49. The Indians (3-6) added a basket and a free throw to lead by three. With regulation time running down, Webb launched a shot from the top of the key that knotted the score at 52.

Craig led the Vikings (3-3) with 21 points, Holmes had 12 and Heath added 11. Price and Andrea Ferret scored 15 points each for Blacksburg.

NEW CASTLE - The Rockets (1-4, 1-0) bolted to an early lead, stumbled a bit, then crusied to the Pioneer District victory behind Chrissy Robertson's14 points. April Rexrode hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 points for Highland.

FLOYD - Leigh-Ann Pursifull scored 13 points to pace a balanced attack as the Buffaloes whipped the Maroon Tide in a non-district game. Laura Harman added 10 points for Floyd County (8-0). Pursifull had six rebounds and four assists, while Melissa Cantrell had five steals and five assists. Tammy Cox paced Galax (5-2) with a game-high 20 points.

PEARISBURG - The Spartans used tenacious team defense to avenge an early-season loss to the Green Wave. Kelly Williams and Tomika Saunders each scored 12 points for Giles (5-2). Melissa Lucas scored 10 points to lead Narrows (3-3).

MONETA - The Golden Eagles used a full-court man-to-man press to force numerous turnovers as they wore down the Red Devils in the Seminole District. Staunton River (5-1, 5-1) was led by Deena Mitchell who scored a game-high 27 points, including two 3-pointers.

SHAWSVILLE - Nancy Tupper scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half to enable the Eagles (2-7) to break open a tight game. Robin Burdette had 23 points and Brandy Alexander 10 for the Shawnees.
