HOUSE FIRE BELIEVED TO BE ARSON

A fire that gutted a Roanoke County home early Monday appears to have been set, according to fire investigators.

At about 3:37 a.m., a neighbor called 911 after seeing flames and smoke spewing from the home at 5445 Endicott St. N.E. No one was injured during the blaze.

When Roanoke County firefighters first arrived, they were unsure if anyone was inside the home. They found the front door unlocked and the rear sliding door open.

The residents, Jamie and Roger Baker and their 5-year-old son, were located later Monday morning, Fire Marshal Donald Gillispie said. They told investigators that they had left their home just before the fire.

The fire is believed to have begun in the bedroom. It took about half an hour to extinguish. Damage to the home is estimated at $110,000.
