They have been gathering material, writing articles and taking pictures for a file on the world's largest computer network. Users from all over the world can now read about and see pictures of the observatory located on the elementary school campus.
The observatory and its accompanying museum was founded in 1969 by the Dublin native for whom it is named.
Material available in the computer file includes a history of the observatory, student articles about it and actual pictures of the re-installation of the original telescope.
Young people in John Wenrich's class have been working on a unit about space. They have been locating resources on the Internet and using Virginia's Public Education Network each day to access material from remote data bases.
They check local weather forecasts from the data base at the University of Minnesota, send E-mail to students elsewhere in the world, and are taking part in a project with more than 175 classrooms.
The pupils wrote their articles on word processors, and will keep the D.C. Wysor file updated with material about planets and photos throughout the school year.
They are also working on a file about the demonstration school itself to be stored on the Internet. It will include student artwork and photos of class projects.
