What do the candidates think about gays in the military?
- Marshall Coeburn, Narrows
COLEMAN: "I am opposed to discrimination, but in the special case of the military, I defer to the judgment of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They are responsible for military morale and fitness, they have a new policy in place, and I think we should give it a chance to work."
NORTH: "I am opposed to allowing avowed homosexuals to serve in the U.S. military. The military lifestyle is incompatible with the homosexual lifestyle. I believe allowing homosexuals in the military would be detrimental to discipline, military readiness and our national security."
ROBB: "As a Marine who served in Vietnam, I believe military personnel should be evaluated on how well they can accomplish their assigned mission, not on race, gender, religion or other qualities irrelevant to military performance."
