John Douglas Bayne was arrested at the victim's home on Greenway Drive about an hour after the 4 a.m. incident. He and the victim knew each other, police said.
The victim told police that Bayne broke through a basement door of her home, raped and sodomized her, and physically restrained her.
After he fell asleep in one of her bedrooms, the woman drove to a relative's home in Roanoke and called police.
Bayne was charged with rape, sodomy, abduction and breaking and entering with the intent to commit rape. The woman was treated at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley and was released.
Bayne remained in Roanoke County Jail late Wednesday. Bond was set at $3,000.
