TIRE CHAINS BLAMED IN POSTAL-TRUCK CRASH

Weather didn't stop a mail carrier from completing his rounds Thursday, but a wreck did.

A U.S. Postal Service truck collided with a brick embankment and overturned on Forest Road just before 4 p.m., according to Roanoke County Police.

Ernest Wayne Cash received minor injuries in the crash, said Officer S.A. Elswick.

Cash, 46, was listed in stable condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Thursday night, according to the nursing supervisor.

Elswick said the postal truck ran off the side of the road. When Cash maneuvered the vehicle back onto the pavement, snow chains on the truck's tires caused it to skid across the road and crash.

"If the chains weren't on the truck, he wouldn't have wrecked," said Elswick, who also said charges will not be filed.
