Reynolds, a 6-foot, 179-pound freshman from Roanoke broke the sixth vertebra in his neck during the game on campus, WOWK-TV reported.
He was in guarded condition in the intensive care unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.
Marshall coach Jim Donnan refused to discuss Reynolds' injury Monday night. Sports information director Gary Richter said he had not heard of the injury and had no information.
Reynolds moved into the starting lineup in his first season with the Thundering Herd. Marshall advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA championship game for the third consecutive year, losing to Youngstown State 17-5.
