OBIT CUNNINGHAM, WILLIAM DOUGLAS

CUNNINGHAM, William Douglas, of Moneta, died Tuesday January 18, 1994, at the local hospital. Mr. Cunningham lived at the Waterfront on Smith Mountain Lake. He was born in 1926, a son of the late Thomas B. Cunningham and Imogene P. Cunningham, who survives. He was a hobbiest and built model ships and airplanes and was an expert in Indian Legion and Folklore, and had quite a collection of indian artifacts. A graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles, he was a Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Ellen M. Cunningham; two daughters, Nancy Crosby, San Diego, Calif., Diana Cunningham, San Rafeal, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Andra Rostek, Great Falls, Mont., and Marie Kallberg, Knoxville, Tenn.; a stepson, Robert Long, Tacoma, Wash.; seven stepgrandchildren; one brother, Richard B. Cunningham, Smith Mountain Lake. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Resurrection Catholic Church, Moneta, Va., with The Rev. Gary Scheidt, pastor of Trinity Ecumenical Parish officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. to service time on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scruggs Rescue Squad. The family has been assisted with arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, 342 S. Main Street, Rocky Mount.
