Meanwhile, Margenau and one of his partners, Fred Mayerson, say they plan to attend Monday's meeting of the Salem City Council.
"Just a courtesy call to introduce ourselves," Margenau said.
The sale of the Bucs by Kelvin Bowles to Margenau's group depends on a vote of Carolina League owners. When the league has all the paperwork in hand, a meeting will be called. League bylaws require 15 days' notice of a meeting, President John Hopkins said.
Margenau and Bowles have said they do not anticipate a problem with approval of the deal. The sale price is believed to be $2 million.
The City of Salem has gone on record with the league as being opposed to out-of-town ownership. Should the sale go through, Salem would be the only team in the league owned by a group or individual with no local ties.
Margenau did not seem concerned about the city's opposition.
"I have spoken to the mayor [Jim Taliaferro] and it was very amicable," Margenau said. "I do not think [the city's opposition] will continue to be an issue."
Taliaferro was out of town Friday and unavailable for comment.
