Rowe Furniture Corp., Arlington-based manufacturer of upholstered furniture with operations in Salem, said Thursday it has registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission a proposed offering of 1,402,968 shares of its common stock. Proceeds would be used to upgrade the company's management information system, repay debt, provide working capital and for other general corporate purposes, the company said.

Crestar Financial Corp., Richmond-based banking company with a regional headquarters in Roanoke, said Thursday it has completed acquisition of the Richmond-based Virginia Federal Savings Bank. The merger adds 10 branches to Crestar's banking network: six in Richmond and one each in Charlottesville, Waynesboro, West Point and Orange. It also brings to Crestar approximately $500 million in deposits, $542 million in loans and about 32,000 new customers.
