APCO PAYMENTS CAN BE SPREAD THROUGHOUT YEAR

Appalachian Power Co. has a payment plan to help people who have been hit with abnormally high electric bills because of the severe winter weather, company spokesman Don Johnson says.

Some Apco customers were faced with bills as much as 40 percent higher this January than for the same period last year because of the severe weather.

Apco offers an "equal payment plan" that helps customers stretch out high winter heating bills throughout the year.

Customers do not have to call or sign up for the plan, which the company has been advertising.

When they get their next bill, they should check the easy payment plan amount on the bill and send in that amount. They will automatically be placed on the plan, Johnson said.

During the last month of the plan, customers either get a refund for what they have overpaid or are billed for the amount they have underpaid for their electricity usage during the year, Johnson said.
