BOUCHER NOT READY TO FOCUS ON ELECTION

Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, said Monday it will be months before he will turn his attention to a potential conservative Republican challenger in this fall's election.

Bluefield College professor Steve Fast of Tazewell announced Saturday he will seek the GOP nomination for the 9th Congressional District, which includes the New River Valley and most of Southwest Virginia, excluding Roanoke.

When asked Monday for reaction to Fast's announcement, Boucher cited the great volume of legislation now before Congress.

"This campaign is still months away," Boucher said. "I am very busy with my legislative work. I will not be focusing my attention on campaign matters for months to come."
