Federal-Mogul Corp., Southfield, Mich.-based operator of an engine bearings plant in Blacksburg, on Tuesday announced the public offering of 5 million shares of its common stock at a price of $34.375 per share in United States and international offerings. The company will use net proceeds from the sale of common stock to repay debt.

Fieldcrest Cannon Inc., an Eden, N.C.-based textiles maker with operations in Henry County, said Tuesday the contracted purchasers of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad in Maine have said they will not close the transaction. Fieldcrest Cannon is in discussions with other parties for the sale of the railroad, an asset it acquired as part of its acquisition of Amoskeag Co.

Traffic on the Blue Ridge Parkway fell 60.2 percent in January, the scenic highway's administrators reported. Last month, 455,443 vehicles used the 469-mile parkway, down from 1,142,913 in January 1993. Traffic on the Virginia portion of the parkway fell 57.5 percent to 215,508 vehicles; the North Carolina portion of the road had a 62.3 percent decline, to 239,935 vehicles.

ACS Home Entertainment Gallery, a Roanoke satellite television retailer, said it has become an authorized dealer for the DirectTv entertainment programming service sold by a unit of GM Hughes Electronics. The DirectTv system delivers 150 cable television channels through an 18-inch satellite dish.
