Mayor Thomas A. Zimmerman has said he may not seek re-election.
Zimmerman, who was elected in 1992, said he has undertaken so many activities that he cannot do the mayor's job as it should be done. He is a member of the Craig County School Board and several other organizations. Also, he works in Roanoke and is away from New Castle much of the time.
Zimmerman also said he needs to spend more time with his family.
Although he has not made a formal announcement about not seeking re-election, Zimmerman said "at this point it seems pretty certain that I won't."
However, he said he may change his mind before the election.
The terms of the other four council members also expire this year but none of them have announced whether they plan to seek re-election.
