HALL OF FAME DINNER STILL ON

The third annual Roanoke-Salem Baseball Hall of Fame induction banquet will be held as scheduled tonight at the Salem Civic Center. However, one inductee won't be present because of travel problems.

Former Roanoke Red Sox star and 14-year major-leaguer Charlie Maxwell was forced to cancel his return to the city where he won the Piedmont League's Triple Crown in 1949. Because of bad weather in Michigan on Saturday from a snowstorm expected to continue today, Maxwell was unable to make plane connections to the Roanoke Valley.

The Hall of Fame dinner begins at 7 p.m. after a social hour. Besides Maxwell, the inductees are Pablo Cruz, Bob Humphreys, Boyd "Hawkbill" Hall and the late Jack Dame.
