ROANOKE WINS, RUNS ODAC RECORD TO 15-0

Roanoke College clinched the top seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament by edging Virginia Wesleyan 82-80 in overtime Saturday at the Bast Center.

Crystal Wilson hit an inside shot with 12 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. Roanoke (17-4 overall, 15-0 ODAC) led by as many as six points in the extra period.

Roanoke senior Kristie Workman set a school record for career assists. Workman's 13 assists gave her 150 - breaking the record held by Emile Voelker (139). Workman also tied her school record for assists in one game, which she set earlier this season against Eastern Mennonite.

The Maroons' Lori Boyd scored a game-high 19 points and Wilson added 16 points and nine rebounds. Five Maroons scored in double figures.

Virginia Wesleyan (13-8, 10-5), which took an early 8-0 lead, was led by Ericka Byrum's 18 points and 16 rebounds.

BLACKSBURG - Christi Osborne scored a game-high 19 points as the Hokies rolled past the Rams in a Metro Conference game.

Virginia Tech has won six in a row overall and 23 consecutive games at Cassell Coliseum.

Osborne made all 11 of her free-throw attempts. Jenny Root scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had a career-high six blocked shots, and Sue Logsdon added 10 points for Tech (17-4, 5-2), which overcame a season-low 29.3 percent shooting. The Hokies connected on 29 of 36 free throws to seal the victory.

Svetlana Pankratova and Ali Ault led Virginia Commonwealth (3-16, 0-6) with 13 points apiece. Pankratova blocked 11 shots, setting a Metro record for a game.

The Rams shot 33.9 percent and turned over the ball 16 times.

CHARLOTTESVILLE - Wendy Palmer and Tora Suber scored 21 points apiece as the Cavaliers extended several winning streaks with an Atlantic Coast Conference victory over the Blue Devils.

Palmer added nine rebounds and six steals, and Suber had six assists and two steals as Virginia (20-2, 12-0) won its 13th consecutive game overall and its 22nd in a row in the league. The Cavaliers also extended their school- and league-record string of consecutive home victories to 38.

Duke (15-7, 6-6) came from 14 points down with 19:42 remaining to 59-54 at the 4:01 mark. But Virginia scored the next five points, and Duke was unable to get closer than seven again.

Virginia had a 38-27 rebounding edge, led by 11 from Amy Lofstedt.

Radford 84\ Liberty 80

LYNCHBURG - Shannan Wilkey scored a game-high 30 points as the Highlanders slipped by the Flames in a Big South Conference game that featured 17 lead changes.

Wilkey's two free throws with nine seconds remaining clinched the victory for Radford (11-9, 8-4).

Nicole Gardiner scored 14 points for the Highlanders and Mindy Ballinger added 11. Anna Barrington led the Flames (9-11, 6-6) with 21 points.

N.C. Wesleyan 79 Ferrum 70

FERRUM - Kinsey Pritchett scored a game-high 36 points as the Battling Bishops beat the Panthers in a Dixie Conference game.

Ferrum (14-8, 7-3) took a nine-point halftime lead, but was outscored 52-34 in the second half by North Carolina Wesleyan (13-7, 7-3).

The Panthers turned over the ball 27 times, while the Battling Bishops committed only 10 turnovers. Chris Webb scored 11 points and had seven assists for N.C. Wesleyan, and Lisa Tyson scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Niki Claiborne led Ferrum with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Dionne Smith added 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Glossary Smith had 14 points and 15 rebounds.
