Dandridge was considered one of the best third basemen ever but was little known to baseball fans because he played most of his career during an era when blacks were excluded from the major leagues and media coverage of the Negro Leagues was minimal. Dandridge spent five years in the minor leagues after Jackie Robinson shattered the color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.
