Roanoke Catholic trailed early and fought back into contention, but the Celtics couldn't close the gap all the way as visiting Holy Cross took a 64-62 Virginia Independent Conference boys' basketball victory Sunday.

Luke Lesniak, who had 22 points, hit four free throws in the last minute to counter the Celtics as the Gaels protected a two-point lead. Brian Lightner, averaging 26 points, scored 19 for Holy Cross.

The Celtics were 7-for-17 on 3-point attempts. Deon Royer's 20 points led Roanoke Catholic (7-11, 3-7), Jemarh Patterson had 11 and Greg Broderick and Mike Kolnok had 10 each. \
