Williams is a 1973 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ LT. COL. STEVEN D. RIZZO, son of Bonnie J. Rizzo of 5539 Halcun Drive N.E., has retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service.
\ 2ND LT. MATTHEW J. FOLEY, son of Francis J. and Diane H. Foley of 3520 Stonehenge Square, recently received silver wings when he graduated from pilot training at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas.
He has been assigned to Omaha Air Force Base, Neb.
\ ARMY STAFF SGT. BETTY C. BROWN has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding noncombat meritorious achievement to the United States.
Her husband, Larkin, is the son of Larkin E. and Hattie M. Brown of 1308 Leon St. N.W.
\ ARMY PVT. CLIFTON D. POINDEXTER, son of Carnis L. and Vera R. Poindexter of 1211 Crescent St. N.W., recently completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
\ ARMY PFC. CHRISTOPHER L. NOBLE, son of Mark J. and Shirley K. Noble of 4239 Pippin St., recently completed basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.
\ SEAMAN APPRENTICE JAMES B. CLEMMER, son of Charles B. and Shirley B. Clemmer of 4389 Highland Drive, recently graduated from the Coast Guard Recruit Training Center.
Clemmer is a 1990 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian School.
\ SEAMAN GREGORY M. MacMACKIN, son of Gary M. and Teresa L. MacMackin of Blue Ridge, has completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego.
MacMackin is a 1993 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.
\ ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PVT. SETH B. PLUNKETT, son of Jeanna Murphey of 7222 Longleaf Drive, recently completed basic training at Fort Leonard E. Wood, Waynesville, Mo.
\ ARMY PVT. ELIZABETH S. ELOY, daughter of Patricia S. and John L. Eby of 3437 Canter Circle, recently completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
\ AIR FORCE SENIOR AIRMAN EDWARD R. GIRARD, son of Jeanette Stockli of 2238 Beavers Lane, Vinton, is at Aviano Air Base, Italy, working in conjunction with the United Nations on Operation Deny Flight to enforce the no-fly zone in Bosnia-Herzegovina airspace.
Girard maintains an F-16 fighter aircraft.
\ MARINE PFC. STEVEN T. DICKERSON, son of Thomas and Francis Dickerson of 4617 Sanders Drive N.E., recently completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS KENNETH W. BISHOP, whose wife, Melissa, is the daughter of Alfred and Virginia Fisher of Vinton, recently returned to Norfolk from a deployment in the Caribbean aboard the USS Barry as part of Operation Support Democracy.
\ SEAMAN RECRUIT MARK A. LAWRENCE, son of Charles R. and Rosemary E. Booksha of 534 Chestnut Mount Drive, Vinton, completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.
\ AIRMAN STEPHEN M. PARCELL, son of Jerry W. and Alinda P. Parcell Parcell of Vinton, recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
\ SEAMAN WILLIAM M. SAUNDERS, son of Eula M. Saunders of 3104 Willow Road, is on a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Independence.
The ship is serving in support of Operation Southern Watch, monitoring Iraqi compliance imposed by the United Nations.
\ ARMY PVT. STACEY D. JONES, son of Donna Jones of 1407 Abbott Ave., recently completed basic training at Fort Knox, Fort Knox, Ky.
