Ruth Ellen S. Ayers and Mark Douglas Smoot were married January 25, 1994,
in Unity Church of Roanoke Valley with Rev. Alan Rowbotham officiating. The
bride's gown was ivory Seville and Schiffli laces with a Victorian neckline,
dolman sleeves and modified blouson bodice with a flowing skirt and a
handkerchief hemline and soft sweep train. She carried a bouquet of soft peach
roses accented by baby's breath and satin ribbons. The bride is the daughter
of Mrs. R. Frazier Smith, Jr., of Covington, Va. She is a graduate of the
American Health Information Management Association's Program for Accreditation
in Health Record Technology and attended Virginia Western Community College
and College of Health Sciences. She is employed by Carilion Health System. The
groom is the son of Earl Smoot of Roanoke and the late Betsy Williams of
Salem. He graduated from Virginia Western Community College and is employed by
Roanoke City. The newlyweds will live in Roanoke.
