OBIT BROWN, MARTHA GERTRUDE

BROWN, Martha Gertrude, 99, of Radford, formerly of Blacksburg, died Saturday, February 19, 1994, at Wheatland Hills Retirement Center. Miss Brown was born in Pulaski County on May 26, 1894, to the late James M. Brown and Mattie Harris Brown. A graduate of Pulaski High School, Miss Brown moved to Blacksburg with her family around 1914. She lived at the family home at 318 Clay Street, where she kept V.P.I. students for more than 50 years. She was the oldest member of the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, having joined that church upon moving to Blacksburg. Surviving are 6 nephews, Dr. Glenn C. Hall Jr., Radford, Terry L. Brown, Cleveland, Ohio, Bob Miller, Richmond, Frank Brown, Pulaski, Walter Brown, Martinsville, John Holmes, Florida; 5 nieces, Martha Brown Bittle, New Hampshire, Betty Carolyn Hearon, Mobile, Ala., Elva Brown Mitchell, Martinsville, Nancy Hall Price, Florida, Mildred Hall Carter, Williamsburg. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 21, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. D. Cameron Murchison Jr. and the Rev. Joe McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery, Belspring. Memorial contributions may be made to Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 144, Blacksburg, Va. 24063. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
