OBIT DAVIS, JOSEPHINE RUTH FUNK
DAVIS, Josephine Ruth Funk, 98, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, February
21, 1994. She was the widow of the Rev. Henry J. Davis, who was a former
Baptist minister and Chaplain for 52 years. Mrs. Davis was also preceded in
death by a son, Henry Joseph Davis. She was a graduate of Cincinnati
Conservatory of Music and the Louisville Baptist Seminary. Mrs. Davis played
the piano and organ for the Lord from the age of 13 until she was the age of
92. She received an award for playing 700 hours for U.S.O. during WWII. Mrs.
Davis was the former organist at Preston Oak Baptist Church for 18 years. She
was a direct decendant of Joseph Funk, who was the (Father of Music in
Virginia). Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Jean D. Thompson,
Roanoke, Mrs. Edythe A. Davis, Roanoke; grandchildren and their spouses, Diane
Davis, Van Davis, White Fish, Montana, Larry and Maureen Davis, Crozet, Peggy
and Ron Oliver, Roanoke, Bobby and Debbie Thompson, Roanoke, John and Faye
Thompson, Richmond; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
Thursday, February 24, 1994 at 11 a.m. in Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev.
James Milsaps officiating. Burial to be held in Blackstone, Va. Friends may
call at Oakey's North Chapel Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to Mission Services of your choice.
