MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN I-81 WRECK

A Bent Mountain man died Monday night after losing control of his motorcycle on an Interstate 81 ramp near Christiansburg.

Adam W. Sweet, 23, died about 90 minutes after he wrecked, State Police said.

After entering I-81 from U.S. 460, the northbound Sweet lost control in a sharp curve at the top of the ramp, then was hit by a car driven by Deborah Martin, 44, of Marietta, Ga.

Trooper C.D. Jessee said that as Sweet reached the top of the ramp, the back of the motorcycle slid out from under him and he lost control, sliding across a northbound lane. Martin was unable to avoid Sweet, Jessee said.

The accident happened at 8:30 p.m. Sweet sustained internal injuries and was pronounced dead at Montgomery Regional Hospital just after 10 p.m.
