FRANKLIN COUNTY WRESTLER MUSE AIMS FOR GROUP AAA STATE TITLE

It was a bleak day for Roanoke Valley District wrestlers in the Group AAA state tournament Friday as only Franklin County's 160-pound John Muse was left vying for a state championship.

Muse won a pair of decisions 7-4 and 19-11 to move into this morning's semifinals.

Cave Spring's 160-pound John Richardson, Franklin County's 135-pound Bryan Jones, and teammate Brian Saul, a 103-pounder, survived first-round matches. All three were defeated in the quarterfinals.

William Fleming's Eddie Jones, a standout 189-pounder who had lost only two matches, did not wrestle and apparently is out with an injury that has plagued him this winter.

In the team standings, Franklin County was the top RVD team with 11 points to tie Green Run for 15th spot. - Staff report
