NAMES & CHANGES

New financial officers at Advance Auto

NEIL LEFTWICH has been promoted to vice president and chief financial officer of Advance Auto Parts. Leftwich, who has been with the company for 10 years, has been a staff accountant, general accounting manager and director of accounting. In his new position, he will be responsible for the finance, accounting, benefits and budgeting departments at the corporate headquarters in Roanoke.

Also, JIMMIE L. WADE has joined Advance Auto Parts as treasurer. He will be responsible for cash management, payroll, benefits, human resources and risk management. Wade, a certified public accountant, has held financial management positions at Heironimus department stores and Krisch Hotels Inc., both in Roanoke.

Advance Auto Parts is an automotive parts retail chain with stores in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.\ \ ACCOUNTING

BETTY J. DAVIS has been named tax specialist manager at KPMG Peat Marwick in Roanoke. She will be providing tax services in the personal financial planning and employee benefits areas. She is a certified public accountant and a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.\ \ COMMUNICATIONS

CHARLES WEBB has recently joined United States Cellular Mobile Telephone Network in Martinsville as sales manager. He will oversee sales in Virginia and North Carolina. He was formerly direct and indirect sales manager with Alltel Mobile Communications in Savannah, Ga.

\ JOHN O'DONNELL also has joined the company, as manager-indirect distribution. He will oversee communications and sales through agents in Virginia and North Carolina. O'Donnell was previously an account representative with General Cellular Corp.\ \ ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Virginia Chamber of Commerce has elected several people from Southwest Virginia to its board of directors: JILL M. BURCHAM, vice president of marketing, Darco Southern Inc., Independence; JAMES W. ROBINSON, secretary-treasurer, Robinette Steel and Scrap Metal Inc., Big Stone Gap; FRANKLYN H. MORENO, marketing director, New River Valley Economic Development Alliance, Christiansburg; and JOSEPH H. VIPPERMAN, president and chief operating officer, Appalachian Power Co., Roanoke. Also, HAROLD E. ARMSEY, owner and administrator of Preferred Choice, Big Stone Gap, was appointed chairman of the board alumni.

\ INSURANCE

FRANK M. LEA of Roanoke has recently joined the Pyramid Life Insurance Co. as district manager of the Virginia division of the Shawnee Mission, Kan.-based company. He is responsible for recruiting, training and managing agents. Lea comes to Pyramid after 34 1/2 years with Mutual of Omaha, most recently as president of the Tele-Trip Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mutual of Omaha.\ MEDIA

WAYNE THOMAS of Charleston, W.Va., has been named general manager of WYVE Radio in Wytheville. He replaces DAVID ROEDERER, who has been named general\ manager of WPSK-FM in Pulaski. Both stations are owned by the Cumberland Group\ of Richlands. Thomas has worked in the media field for 20 years. He is past\ president of the West Virginia Broadcasters Association and a former West\ Virginia state senator.

\ NONPROFITS

KATHRYN HAYNIE, executive director of Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge, has been selected a Fellow of the Virginia Institute of Political Leadership. She will attend the institute's political leadership program next January. The institute, based in the Center of Public Service at the University of Virginia, focuses on the ethical responsibilities of public office.\ ORGANIZATIONS

PATTY McCOY STRAIN has been named the 1993 Young Careerist for the Business and Professional Women's Club in Bedford. Strain is assistant vice president and regional manager of employee benefits for Central Fidelity Bank in Roanoke.
