LOOKING AT SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA HISTORY|

A symposium on the history and culture of Southwest Virginia will be held today at Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon.

Speaking at the event are Ronald Eller, director of the Appalachian Civic Leadership Project and a history professor at the University of Kentucky; Kathleen Harman, curator of textiles at the Historic Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park; Jean Haskell Speer, director of Appalachian Studies and Services at East Tennessee State University; Crandall Shifflet, history professor at Virginia Tech; and Richard Blaustein, sociology and anthropology professor at East Tennessee State University.
